With the last few years so topsy-turvy, many family reunions have been cancelled or delayed.
But planning for a long-awaited family reunion means it's time to get the gang back and have some fun together!
Choosing the right location for your family reunion is essential.
You could go for something close to home, such as your backyard or a local park.
Or you could choose a central location between all your family members' locations, like a special camping holiday.
You might even want to hire an entire venue to host a reunion and camping holiday for your extended family. By booking the entire venue, you will have the privacy and flexibility to host the holiday in the way that best suits your family.
One thing about family reunions is that they can quickly expand into large numbers.
Also, you may need to cater to lots of different age groups. From tiny-tots, tweens, and teens, to older people.
So you'll want to entertain your family with an activity that appeals to all ages.
Communicate with the fam at each step so everyone is up to speed.
Step 1: Select a date that suits most of them. Getting all of your family to agree on a date can be challenging, to say the least. Try running a poll with them and offering two alternative dates. Remember to avoid big weekends in the year, such as the Grand Final or the Melbourne Cup.
Go with the one that suits most of them. Then stick to it!!
Step 2: Decide where to hold the get-together (at home or away). Consider different budgets. Some of the fam may be super tight at the moment, so you don't want to go overboard. Set a budget that everyone can contribute to. Miracles can happen.
Step 3: Next, factor in your food. Bet you'll have lots of hungry mouths to feed!
Step 4: Plan some fun and games to enjoy with the relatives, like outdoor laser tag. Keeping the crew entertained with some fun stuff means the kids will be off their screens (at least for a while).
Step 5: A family reunion is a terrific opportunity for families to spend quality time together and make wonderful memories. So, it's not a bad idea to assign one or two family members to take photos and videos so you can capture these special moments.
Khristie is a mum of 5 kids. She loved her laser tag hire for getting the fam together.
"Fantastic! This was my first response when I was given the opportunity to trial Laser Tag-in-a-box.
With the Queensland school holidays underway, I thought it was a fantastic idea for the kids to do over the weekend with their family and friends.
I had never heard of Laser Tag-in-a-box until now and only thought laser tag could be played in family fun centers, etc. We were contacted straight away by the very friendly and helpful team at Laser Tag-in-a-box at the Brisbane store, and from there plans were made. We picked up all the equipment on a Friday, all boxed up ready to go, for return on the following Monday."
"I had gone on my own, with no children, to pick up the equipment, without realizing that I was going to be given a briefing on how all the equipment was used. The Laser Tag-in-a-box team were very helpful and informative, demonstrating how all the equipment worked and answering any questions that I had. They also had a shop where you could buy or rent extra items to make the weekend more exciting.
I purchased and hired a couple of items, the bunkers and the favourite amongst the kids was the face paint in camouflage colours.
I have 5 children ranging in age from 3 to 14, and each of them was able to use the guns and play the game.
It was a little harder for the 3-year-olds, as the guns were a bit heavy, but this didn’t stop them from wanting to play with everyone.
My husband also played a game with my 14-year-old son and his friends on a Friday night, and it was a huge hit with them, as the laser could be seen in the dark while they couldn’t.
On Saturday and Sunday, more children came over, and that's when the fun and games began. I had kids running all around the front and back yard, in and out of gardens, anywhere they could hide, trying to tag each other.
They were absolutely exhausted by the end of the day. One suggestion for parents is to make sure all children are continually covered in sunscreen between games. Once they start a game, you definitely can’t stop it to apply sunscreen.
From picking up the Laser Tag-in-a-box to returning it, my whole family, their family, and friends rate it 5 out of 5 stars. It was so much fun, with the convenience of doing it all in our backyard."
Family reunions are about one thing above all: getting everyone off their screens and back together. Pick a date, sort a venue, feed the crew, and add a game the whole family can play at once, and you've got a reunion people will talk about for years. That's where laser tag comes in. Ready-to-play in minutes, easy for ages 3 to 73, and it turns cousins, aunties, and grandparents into teammates (or rivals) for the afternoon.
With good planning and fun games to play, your family reunion will be the talk of the fam for years to come!
