Welcome to Laser Tag Logs. This is a logbook of your event's success.

Let’s dive in!

Today, my friends, we’re continuing your event planning journey: Party on a Budget.  As our wallets are hit hard by the cost-of-living crisis, many of us are looking for ways to soften the blow. Before we jump into the nitty-gritty, let's talk numbers.  New research reveals that the majority of children spend more time on screens than outdoors. A Royal Children’s Hospital national child health poll found that 54% of children play on screens indoors most days, while 4 in 5 parents would like their kids to spend more time outdoors.

According to Psychology Today, in 2013, young people spent an average of 3 hours per day glued to the TV screen. Nowadays, the screens have switched to TikTok & YouTube, and the time spent has nudged up a bit.

It's time to change that narrative and create real-life experiences they'll cherish.

So, where do we begin?

Imagine this – a party that transports your child and their friends into a world of excitement, laughter, and friendly competition.

The story begins with the quest to plan an unforgettable celebration that hits the mark. Our heroes, the teachers, educators, and parents, embark on a journey to reclaim their children from the clutches of endless video games. And the secret weapon? A budget-friendly laser tag adventure! Now, you might be wondering, how does laser tag fit into this equation? Well, laser tag is not just a game; it's an experience that drags kids away from screens and immerses them in a world of active fun.

Here's the game-changer – laser tag rentals. Affordable, flexible, and perfect for Australian families and schools, laser tag rentals from Laser Tag in a Box bring the party to your backyard.  You can transform your place or campus into a pop-up maze. Burning some energy and creating fun memories. Instead of buying decorations, you can rent them.

For example, if you are throwing a laser tag party, you can rent a camo net that can serve as an awesome photo backdrop.

You can also rent camo-patterned cloth tablecloths and camo bunting.

Bonus: Renting is also better for the environment!

Gone are the days when renting was limited to DVDs, cars, or apartments. Now you can hire just about everything from clothes to laser tag sets. More & more Australians are focusing on sustainable shopping options. One of the biggest pieces of the budget pie, in a kiddo’s birthday party, is the food. Good news, if you are hosting the event at your place, you can avoid the expense of Theme Park or Family Entertainment Centre menu prices.  Your backyard or local park is the perfect place to host a kids' birthday party.

No venue fee.

Better still, you can choose the kick-off time. So my tip is to time your event between major meals.

Bringing the party forward to start around 10 am or in the afternoon, like 2 pm, means the responsibility of providing lunch is dodged. Most kids will be arriving with a full tummy from either breakfast or lunch, so they won't be the usual munching monsters we know them to be. Platters of snack-style items such as small sandwiches, mezze boards, and fruit platters will be enough to feed your party-goers. Party entertainers can cost lots of moolah. And you pay by the hour. While they are great for keeping the kids occupied, they are pricey and seem to always disappear way too quickly. A great alternative to an entertainer is a DIY activity.

While it requires a bit of set-up, an activity not only keeps the kids busy but can also be a great way to bring out the theme of a party and can double up as a party favour. Another way to not break the bank is to consider a joint party. My kids have their birthdays within a few weeks of one another, so we have often thrown joint parties (especially when they were a bit younger).

Or, if that is not a goer, consider whether your child has a best friend or cousin who has a birthday around the same time of year. As they say, a problem shared is a problem halved.

And in this case, it is a party shared is a party halved!! Don’t forget: when you rent from Laser Tag in a Box, you hire for Saturday and get Sunday for free. So you can invite friends and buddies over on Saturday and the family on Sunday (or vice versa). That's two parties for the price of one! Running your event as a round-robin is a great budget saver.

For example, if you have 16 kids invited to the party, you can book an 8-play-at-once box.

That way, you can have 2 teams on, 2 teams off. If you are running a vacation care program, playing in a round-robin format is a terrific choice.

Say you have 30 students enrolled for that incursion day, then book the 8 pack

Or if you have 50 students, go for a 12 pack

Or, if you work at a big vacation care with 100 students, book a box of 20 taggers!

So everyone gets a go!  As we wrap up today's episode, here's the golden question: How can you make the next celebration in your child's life not only budget-friendly but also an immersive experience that gets them off their screens?

Laser tag might just be the answer. Remember, it's not just a game; it's a memory in the making. Until next time, keep making moments that matter. Now game-runners, thank you for joining me on this episode of "Laser Tag Logs." I cannot wait to connect with you next time. Until then, may your events be filled with laughter, thrills, and magic. Thank you so much for tuning in. I know excitement for your special day is building.

And next time, we will explore how to avoid no-shows. That’s next time on “Laser Tag Logs.”
