When you combine the high energy of a Scout Jamboree with the thrill of live-action laser tag, the result is an adventure that truly stands out. Across Australia, Scouts have been embracing outdoor laser tag as a highlight activity during their major events — and it’s easy to see why.
Whether it’s camping with the Chief Scout, building a pop-up town for 7,000 young people, or setting world records in Maryborough, laser tag has consistently delivered action, teamwork, and memories that last a lifetime.
Here’s how Laser Tag in a Box has powered epic fun at Jamborees across the country.
This April, Scouts from all over Australia will take part in an unforgettable event: camping with the Chief Scout at Government House in Canberra!
As part of the GG Scout Camp, participants will dive into the Challenge Zone — a jam-packed line-up of physical activities and games designed to build resilience, teamwork, and fun.
The Challenge Zone features:
- A vibrant colour run
- Outdoor mini-Olympics
- A MasterChef-style cooking challenge
- An open-air escape room
- A scavenger hunt
And of course… outdoor laser tag!
In 2022, over 7,000 Scouts, volunteers, and leaders gathered in Bendigo, Victoria for an 11-day Jamboree unlike anything they’d experienced before.
“The vibe is amazingly positive and a little bit chaotic — but that’s the fun part.” — Daniella Taglieri, Deputy Chief Commissioner, Scouts Victoria
The event was so large it functioned like a small city, complete with:
A supermarket
Radio station
Medical centre
Daily newspaper
And 200+ activities — including laser tag!
Scouts used Awesome and Royale Taggers from Laser Tag in a Box, as well as Game Boxes to run games like Capture & Hold and Team Elimination. These fast-paced, objective-based missions had Scouts coming back for more every day.
Originally intended to be a national Jamboree for 10,000 participants, the event had to be adapted due to pandemic concerns. After three years of planning and the green light from the Deputy Chief Health Officer, the Victorian event went ahead.
“It’s the equivalent of 200 school camps all happening on the same site at the same time.” — Jon McGregor, Executive Manager, Scouts Victoria
The total estimated cost? Nearly $30 million, if not for the 1,000+ volunteers who made the whole thing possible.
In 2013, Maryborough Showgrounds in Queensland became the stage for a world-record attempt: the largest laser tag game ever played.
As part of AJ2013, over 11,000 Scouts gathered from across Australia and overseas for a two-week festival of learning, adventure, and community spirit.
Laser Tag in a Box supplied over 500 taggers, with two game sessions running daily for 10 days — involving nearly 10,000 players in total.
“A Jamboree is a lifetime experience. You realise what your parents do for you.” — Charlee Howard-Osborne, Maryborough West Scout
The event wrapped with a 436-player finale battle, marking the largest single rental of laser tag equipment in the company’s history — and likely a global record.
“My son is going to LOVE this when it’s his turn!” – Angelli Meza
“My son will love it too.” – Ricky Begelhole
Laser tag isn’t just exciting — it also teaches valuable life skills:
Teamwork & communication
Leadership & planning
Strategic thinking under pressure
Resilience and fair play
It’s a way for Scouts to connect, compete, and build confidence, all while having a blast.
With flexible game modes, outdoor adaptability, and gear that’s easy to use, laser tag fits seamlessly into any Scout event — from a small group activity to a full-scale national Jamboree.
