#5 Ridiculously Easy Games To Play at a Teen Party at Home

By Nicole Lander

Introduction

Throwing a memorable party for teens at home can be a challenging task. Nowadays a home party can be an affordable and fun alternative to family entertainment centres. As a party rental business, we understand the importance of creating a fun and engaging atmosphere for your partygoers. That's why we have curated a list of the top five best party games that are sure to make your teen party a smashing success.

These five games are integrated into the Laser Tag in a Box gaming system.

The Laser Tag in a Box system automatically manages weapon emulations and applies healing aids if you can get to a respawn point or supply crate. All the gamers need to do is move and shoot! Oh, and they might need some good tactics too!

Build A Battlefield In The Backyard

Before your guests arrive create an immersive gaming experience.

Get the teens involved with your party planning. Set up an exciting and challenging battlefield in your backyard. Start by designating two bases at opposite ends of the playing area.

The rental pack includes two "battle boxes" one for each team. They are roughly the size of half a shoe box. So, they are easy to place in a good spot.  Next, you'll need to create a pop-up maze.

Use items like inflatable obstacles, cardboard boxes, or better yet natural elements like trees and bushes. This will provide cover and strategic positions for the players to strategize and execute their gaming tactics.

To enhance the visual experience, consider adding LED lights, smoke machines, or even pop-up hides.

The more dynamic and challenging the battlefield, the more immersive the game becomes!

Ready for Battle!

Issue the taggers to the gamers. Half on the red team, half on the blue. If you have more players than taggers then you will need to play in a round-robin format. The taggers from Laser Tag in a Box are lightweight and durable.

The laser tag sets are equipped with various features like:

  • awesome sound effects
  • ammunition limits, and
  • can switch between semi-auto to full-auto firepower.

We've collated the top 5 live-action games for teen parties. These games are not only entertaining but also encourage teamwork, creativity, and a bit of friendly competition. So, let's dive in and discover the ultimate party games for a teen party at home!

1. Team Elimination (AKA TDM)

Let’s get the party started.

“Team Elimination” is a great ice-breaker. It guarantees non-stop fun for teens and is super easy to run. And it is super easy to run & play.

Are you ready to take your outdoor live-action gaming experience to a whole new level? Look no further than "TDM." This is a thrilling and action-packed game that brings the intensity of a live-action Team Deathmatch right to your backyard.

This is a terrific game to kick-start the party. The laser taggers are ready to play TDM, right out of the box. The laser taggers are pre-configured to be half on the red team and half on the blue.

So, all you need to do is turn each unit on, place the bases on either of your backyard and start blasting!

Team Elimination is a live-action adaptation of the popular TDM game mode found in video games. In this thrilling backyard version, players are divided into two teams and face off in an intense battle to eliminate their opponents.  The objective is simple yet exhilarating: work together as a team to eliminate as many players from the opposing team as possible while keeping your teammates safe.

It's all about strategy, teamwork, and outmanoeuvring your opponents to emerge victorious!

The winning team is the one with the least number of respawns in the timeframe. We recommend playing this game for a few rounds, each 10 minutes. You can set the game time and start everyone one at once with the Master Controller which is included with your rental.

The system times the games and will stop everyone automatically at the 10-minute mark.

V is for Victory

TDM is a classic game. You two teams battle to eliminate players from the opposing team. The team with the least number of respawns at the end wins. This number is shown on the display of your controller.

Want to play TDM in the backyard? Hire the Royale Taggers (aka Scorpions) “Llama Pack.” Just choose how many gamers you want to play at once.

2. Electronic Capture the Flag

When it comes to organizing an exciting outdoor activity for teens, few games can match the adrenaline rush and strategic excitement of "Capture the Flag." Now, imagine taking this classic game to the next level with electronic elements.

You can rent everything you need to play electronic Capture the Flag from Laser Tag in a Box.

It's a game that combines the essence of traditional capture of the flag with cutting-edge technology.

Get ready to transform your backyard into a battlefield and provide an unforgettable gaming experience for teens!

I recommend playing electronic Capture the Flag as your game second (after TDM) because it is slightly harder to manage.

It’s still really easy.

But you just need to explain the game mechanics a bit more to your players.

 Vie for Victory

The team that has the greatest number of electronic flags in their team's battle box, wins. To get an electronic flag the player must make it to their opposition's battle box and shoot it. This will deposit one virtual flag onto the tagger.

Then, and here's the hard part, the player must get back to their own base camp. Then shoot their own battle box to deposit a virtual flag onto their base. The gamer must do this without losing all their hit points!

3. Capture & Hold (AKA Domination)

The search for an action-packed outdoor game that will have your adrenaline pumping and your strategic skills put to the test is over! Look no further than "Capture and Hold."

This is a dynamic and exhilarating live-action version of the popular Domination video game mode. If you add a game box to your rental pack then you can play this adventurous game that turns your backyard into a battleground and immerses teens in an intense battle of strategy and teamwork! Here's how it works. Players are divided into two teams and must strive to capture and maintain control over a specific area on the playing field.

The objective is to strategically secure and defend these areas while preventing the opposing team from doing the same. Players need to tag the game box that's in a central location. When the red team tags the game, it will flash red. When the blue team tags it, the box will flash blue. The computer inside the box counts how long each team has it in control.

With its focus on teamwork, communication, and tactical manoeuvring, Capture and Hold provides an unforgettable gaming experience for teenagers.

Victory! Victory!

The team that has the central game box in control for the longest wins. The game box will flash the winning team's colour at the end of the game. The computer inside the game box automatically times how long each team has it in control.

At the end of the game, the box will flash the winning team’s colour.

4. Battle Royale

Perhaps the most famous game format of recent years is Battle Royale.  This game is inspired by popular video games like "Fortnite" and "PUBG". The last player to be activated at the end of the game wins.

This game is super quick!

So, it is a good idea to play several quick games in a row.  Just like in the video game, the playing map shrinks over time. If a player is outside the gaming zone they will automatically start taking "radiation" damage. The zone starts around a 40m (130 ft) diameter and shrinks over several minutes.  There are no re-activations (respawns) in this game.

Battle Royale is a game of attrition.

Did I mention this game can be over quickly?

While this game comes in at number four on our top 5 teen party games, I recommend you play it last. That’s because you might want to re-configure the team settings.

Use the Master Controller to change the team settings. (There are instructions on how to do this in the quick start guide.)

I reckon the best way to play Battle Royale in the backyard is with duos.

If you rent a laser tag set where 8 play at once, then you can configure the laser taggers into 4 teams. Each team has two players. Or if you rent a laser tag set with 12 play at once, then you can set the taggers up into 6 teams. This way the duos cannot accidentally shoot their teammate. They can only shoot gamers on one of the other teams.

If you don't want to mess around with the team settings then you can still play Battle Royale, red team vs blue team. Just like the 50-vs-50 mode in video games. The squad with a live player wins.

Alternatively, you can re-set the laser taggers to friendly-fire on. This is a free-for-all. This is much harder! It means everyone can shoot anyone! It's every gamer for themselves.

The last gamer standing wins.

Great Victory Requires Great Risk

In this game, the last player standing wins. Or it could be the last duo or the last squad, depending on how you config it.

 5. Heist!

This is my favourite teen party game. It is a bit more complicated to explain. And you do need a few extra game props. But, hey, it’s worth it! Inspired by famous heist movies this game is a thrill a minute.  It's all about the (virtual) money.

Money can be collected in three ways:

  1.  either you shoot the money drop box (while it has cash)
  2.  de-activate a player who is carrying virtual money, or
  3.  steal money from another team's vault by shooting it.

Here’s how the game of Heist works.

Place the Money Drop Box roughly equal distance from each team's Vault Box. The Money Drop adds $10 to its storage every 5 seconds. It flashes BLUE when it has virtual cash.

The player must shoot the sensor on the top of the box to collect the cash. Their tagger will say "Money Collected" to let them know they've been successful. That money is now in the computer of their tagger. Next, the player must get back their Vault Box (without dying). Then they need to shoot the sensor on their team's Vault. Their tagger will say "Money Deposited". Good job! Players can also try and "steal" virtual cash from other players.

If a player has cash and you de-activate that player, then you get half their virtual money. On the flip side, if you die with cash. Poof! It's gone! The third way to collect virtual cash is from your opposition's vault. Players can try to raid the other team's base. If they manage to get close enough to shoot the sensor, they'll steal $50 from the other team's storage. Getting it back to their own Vault means they can add that score to their team's swag.

Victory has 100 Parents

Everyone needs to contribute towards the winning objective: “Collect as much virtual loot as possible!”

This is a thrilling match because right up until the last minute of the game, anyone can win.

In order to play Heist with the right number of game props, book the “Legendary” pack, that way you'll also get some supply crates.

Just choose how many gamers you want to play at once.

Level Up Your Teen Party

To make the event even more exciting you might introduce gamer content with categories like "Most Valuable Player" or "Best Battle Pose".

Laser Tag in a Box offers themed pewter trophies which make great awards or mementos for your party-goers.

Who wins the laurels?

Gamers can compare their real-time gaming statistics on each tagger's display. Players can compare their stats, like K/D ratio, number of hits, etc at the end of each game.

If they keep the same tagger over several games then the display will show the player’s overall “session stats.”

In the age of social media, photos and videos are a must-have at any teen party. They are a fantastic way to capture memories.

Set up a designated area with a backdrop and props. Included in your rental pack is a camo net hire, which makes a terrific backdrop.
