Looking for something epic that will entertain your cadet group?
Bring your cadet unit together with an activity that builds confidence, leadership skills, and communication.
Engage your cadets with an epic battle that is safe, friendly and fun!
Can it be done? Absolutely! Look no further than Laser Tag. But this isn’t traditional laser tag, played in a dark foggy maze with “pew-pew” sound effects. This is live-action gaming, where players get real-time hit-feedback and realistic sound effects. All within a collaborative framework.
For the last few years, the rules for cadets have forbidden laser tag as an activity, but no longer! As of last year, the rules have changed and a new generation of cadets can enjoy the exhilaration of laser tag.
Join dozens of cadet units that have booked in Laser Tag Hire.
In 2018, the Armidale Cadets hired 20 laser taggers. The activity was such a hit they rebooked in 2019 & 2021! The cadets had a fantastic time with the laser tag hit. They especially enjoyed our “Royale” Theme with the extra missions including:
Our laser tag system is built around team games. Players play and win as a team. While individual skills and participation play a crucial role, teams succeed when they work together and meet challenges as a group.
At its most basic, each player has a tagger with 100 Health. When they are tagged, they lose some Health until they’re at 0. They are “dead” (they even get a helpful sound effect that says “You’re Dead”). To keep playing they must return to their starting position.
Why is this so important? This creates a flow to the game. The team can sense when they doing well, as they drive back the opposition. Think of it like a football match, if the main action is happening near the opposition’s goal – you know your team is doing well. The same is true in laser tag.
The most basic mission is called Team Death Match. This is a simple and fun game to play as a “warm up”. Once everyone is familiar with the kit and the mechanics, you can start adding a challenge – a mission for the team to rally around and plan out their strategy together.
The goal? Have more virtual cash in your team’s base at the end of the mission. There are three ways to get cash:
The more coordinated the cadets can be, the better their outcome as a team. Once you have explained the mission, give the teams a chance to work together and strategize.
How will they ensure mission success?
It’s best to run the same game a couple times (swapping ends) to give the teams an opportunity to adapt their plans and try new strategies.
Starting in 2012 until the rules changed in 2018, The Southport School Cadets booked in Laser Tag every year. The cadets LOVED the laser tag. It was a highlight of their weeklong camp.
At these annual camps, the cadets were transported to a picturesque outdoor setting, divided into groups (“platoons”), then pitted against each the others in a number of challenging, novel and engaging activities. The aim was to build physical endurance, courage, perseverance, and teamwork. The boys built strong bonds as they draw on their combined strengths as a “band of brothers”.
Laser Tag can be seamlessly introduced to a cadet overnight camp or activity day as it can be played outdoors. Because there is no central computer and no requirement to connect to WiFi, the taggers can be brought out to the bush without issue. Play around trees or cabins. Push the cadet’s fitness by setting their bases far away from each other. This encourages scouting and stealth, as they seek out the other team (and the objectives).
Australian Army Cadets South QLD HQ: Much like the Southport School Cadets, South Queensland HQ booked in laser tag in 2013 and continued hiring laser tag for years to come. They hired laser tag for their cadets in: 2013, 2014, 2015, & 2016!
HMAS Morton Navy Cadets: In 2015 and again in 2017, the HMAS Mortal Navy Cadets booked in laser tag. In 2015, they had two groups of 70 play. But in 2017, they combined the event into one huge “(laser) skirmish”. This was a fantastic event with 150 cadets participating at once.
136 Army Cadets Redlands: In 2013, 136 Army Cadets trial out laser tag… and they kept coming back. They booked in laser tag hire for special events four more times over the next few years. Twice in 2016. Twice again in 2017. These events were fabulous! The 136 Unit hired 50, 60, and sometimes 120 taggers at once. That allowed them to bring the entire cadet unit together, building camaraderie among the participants.
11 Army Cadet Unit: Operating out of Meadowbrook, the 11 Army Cadet Unit had laser tag as a semi-annual tradition for years. They booked in Laser Tag in 2010, 2011, 2013 & 2015!
127 Army Cadet Unit: Operating out of Ipswich, the 127 Army Cadet Unit rebooked laser tag many-a-time. They first tried out laser tag in 2013. They followed on with booking in 2015 & 2017.
If standard laser tag games aren't suitable for your cadet group, but you still want to bring the excitement to your unit, we have Target Tag.
In this version, instead of tagging over players, the cadets need to score points by tagging a variety of targets. These targets are small boxes that are fully portable and light up in fun colours.
We have a bunch of different games to keep players entertained! Just like with our standard laser tag option, players work as a team. Games like "Flash" build on team coordination.
In this mission, the target tag boxes will light up red or blue for a few seconds. When the target lights up blue, players on the blue team can score points. One play can score 1 point per flash. However, if they call over their teammate, they can tag the target as well. Players can scout out the area, locating targets and working together to score as many points as possible. Having teams promotes friendly competition.
To add to the challenge, once a player has scored a point off a target, they must score a point off a different target first. The first box will not let them score any more points until they did. This means players have to move around the field, seeking out targets.
